Hutt Bowling Club is inclusive for all, offering a range of bowling options for competitive as well as social players. Our two outdoor lawn greens are high quality and are available for corporate, social, casual and Mates in Bowls players as part of the Club’s strong commitment to increasing community involvement in bowls. Our season starts in September and runs through to early May with local club, and interclub competitions

Competition News from Mary Day

The 2022-23 season has been successful for the club despite many interruptions due to frequent rain and subsequent flooding of the greens. All championships were completed although we had to change the dates many times and some games had to be played by arrangement in order to find our champions in time for the Centre’s Champion of Champion events.

We have tried to provide a range of events for our members but unfortunately the weather restricted the time available and often we had to prioritise club championships over more fun and social events. Next season we will again try to offer more themed galas and Graded Triples and Fours.

Some of our other major events such as the New Year Pairs and the 1-10 Year Pairs were again very successful with full greens for both. Our Thursday Galas were held when possible. The very popular Over 80s and 90s was able to be held again for the enjoyment of those participating.

The Duthie Cup was played twice this season, once in September 2022 at our club to make up for the Covid interruption the previous season and again in February at Whanganui. The Cup remains in Lower Hutt.

In Interclub we had teams in Pennants, Premier Bowls 3 5, Twilight Bowls 3 5 and the Winter Fours Interclub. The Men’s Division 3 Pennants team were the Hutt Valley winners and so were the Women’s Division 2 Pennants team. The Premier Bowls 3-Five team were semi-finalists in the Wellington region.

We look forward to next season … and hopefully kinder weather.
